about
I thought I'd write a bit of a background note to this track. This was my first time using an Ableton Push to chop up samples. It's basically a hardware push-button pad that allows you to trigger samples with a digital audio work station.
I'm working on a video about OpenAI so I had a related thought while making this. As AI develops, it's going to be able to mimic most genres. Sample chopping is one of the most "human" methods of creating music in my opinion. It leads to a chaotic, unpredictable nature based on taste. The process in deciding what sounds best is strictly a human one, there are no formulas or rules based on chord structures or rhythm. I think AI will have a tough time mastering this (at least from what I've gathered from the algorithms available today)
Anyway, I chose Bon Iver to try this on because every second of their tracks are sonically rich. I was going for a 2011-13ish UK post-dubstep sound here. Enjoy
